Bushcraft
An Introduction
"This we know: the earth does not
belong to man; man belongs to the earth. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the
sons of the earth. Man did not weave the web of life; he is only a strand in it.
Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself. The end of living and the
beginning of survival."
Chief Red Cloud - 1894
Basic bushcraft principles, (The
language of nature itself) should be known by all members of all societies!
This is especially true for those of us who are members of industrial societies
and who have swapped nature for something called a technological culture.
As a direct result, we have lost the skills and underpinning knowledge that
allow us to understand the signs our planet is producing.
The purpose of these pages is to provide information to visitors and to help
interested individuals to help themselves when they find themselves in a
wilderness environment.
No-one can really know what kind of situation they will find themselves in.
The only way to cover your back is to assess all possible risks and prepare for
them. The following pages have been written to help groups and individuals to
fend for themselves when they find themselves out of touch with civilisation.
